I love those moments when fabrications and fabric collide. Here are two points in case. First, this delightful bed; in this rainy weather we have been having I’ve had no trouble at all imagining cuddling up under its pages and having a long nap and read session.

For additional snugglitude how about this knitted poem? I’m pretty chuffed the knitters of the Poetry Society chose one of my favourite Dylan Thomas poems to knit.  I also can’t help thinking that these two items would go together  really well in a creative loft or nook somewhere.

In My Craft or Sullen Art

In my craft or sullen art

Exercised in the still night

When only the moon rages

And the lovers lie abed

With all their griefs in their arms,

I labour by singing light

Not for ambition or bread

Or the strut and trade of charms

On the ivory stages

But for the common wages

Of their most secret heart.

Not for the proud man apart

From the raging moon I write

On these spindrift pages

Nor for the towering dead

With their nightingales and psalms

But for the lovers, their arms

Round the griefs of the ages,

Who pay no praise or wages

Nor heed my craft or art

I was staggered by this findings in this report on the gendering of children’s storybook characters. I am quite relieved that many of my stories buck those trends.

On a happier note, the creator of  Wallace and Gromit is making a new stop animation film and it is an adaptation of a well known children’s story that sounds enormously fun.  I am especially looking forward to seeing David Tennant playing (in clay form) a love struck young scientist.
