The Hog and Whistle Pub is in the story-world equivalent of Poplar street.

This beautiful lane is the location of The Twisted Hop and those environs definitely inspired the pub. However, there is one crucial difference between the location of the Hog and Whistle and real world Christchurch: in Dan’s world New Regent Street is just around the corner from the pub! When Dan ‘hunted over cobbles, combed the gutter through and through,’ those cobbles were the stones of New Regent Street and that was the scene of the dastardly attack on Mr. Pratt.
