Puff Hill

Puff Hill was drawn from two iconic Canterbury hill sites.

One was Castle Hill which Sally loves for its eerie limestone rock formations. The other was the Witch Hill Reserve in the Port Hills of Christchurch. While she was writing Sally often went there to think, to smoke occasional cigars sitting in the tussock under the full moon, and to drum or sing with friends. It is the place she naturally envisages the ‘hidden cave’ being located on the map of her alter-Christchurch. Perhaps it would be marked on the map with the legend ‘Here There Be…’
